Emergency Protocol Announcement

Prairie Rose School Division along with Medicine Hat School District and the Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education have committed to using the same common language when emergencies occur.

The three school divisions along with the local media and community partners including the RCMP and the Medicine Hat Police Service spoke about the importance of language in emergency situations and how consistent protocol usage will ensure everyone is on the same page when incidents arise.  A description of each of the big four protocols including Lock Down, Hold and Secure, Shelter in Place and Evacuation were shared and examples of when each would be used was explained. (Click here to view the protocol document.)

"Common language is everything," says Superintendent Brian Andjelic. "If we are not saying the same thing as our neighbours or the media it's easy to get confused about the facts.  Today was about getting our local media to join us in helping build consistency in the words and protocols we use when emergencies occur.  Together we can reduce the confusion for our parents and community members."

The school division will be sharing more information with parents in the months to come about the main four protocols and how they will be notified should an incident occur.
