Board Highlights - February 14, 2017

  1. The Prairie Rose board of trustees voted in favour of authorizing Returning Officer Ryan Boser to hold an advanced poll on March 2, 2017 in Oyen.  Voters head to the polls for a by-election on March 9, 2017 to elect two trustees for Ward 1 (Oyen, Acadia Valley, New Brigden, Bindloss and area).
     
  2. The Board voted in favour of adding two additional voting stations in Ward 1 for the March 9, 2017 by-election.  Voting stations will be established in Oyen, Acadia Valley and New Brigden.
     
  3. Board Chair S. Angle shared that a Special Meeting will occur on February 16, 2017 and February 17, 2017.  The meeting agenda consists of an In-Camera Personnel item dealing with the hiring of the Superintendent of Schools.
     
  4. Trustees voted in favour of proposed changes to policy GP#14 Trustee Honorarium & Expenses Reimbursement.  The changes include trustee compensation for meeting preparation and school events that include speaking roles, and a modest increase to the board chair honorarium.
     
  5. The Board approved edits to Policy GP#12 Appeals of Board Policy.  The amendments were proposed to correspond with previously approved changes to policies Transportation T101 - Eligibility for Transportation and T102 - Bus Route Planning.  The transportation policy changes allow for increased flexibility of bus route planning and delegates final decisions regarding transportation to the Superintendent.
     
  6. A delegation from Parkside School presented an overview of the Parkside trades partnership with the Medicine Hat College.  It was shared that plumbing and carpentry are currently being offered to Parkside, Jenner, Schuler and RMAP schools.  The college would like to expand on those trades starting next year; offering welding and electrical too.  Students attend the program for 2 hours once a week for 10 weeks.  Photos and videos taken of the program can be viewed at @ParksidePRSD8.
