Board Highlights - May 9, 2017

Highlights:

  1. The board approved the 2017-18 Annual Board Planning and Monitoring Cycle.  The plan includes school reviews for Parkside and Foremost, board tours for trustees, timelines for various reviews of services, scheduled presentations from various departments and Alberta Education reporting requirements.
     
  2. The board approved two field trip requests.  One request is for 39 Irvine School students to participate in an Eco Adventure field trip to the Cypress Hills on June 21st.  The other is for Senator Gershaw School to participate in the Super T Aviation field trip at the Medicine Hat Airport.
     
  3. The board approved two motions related to New Brigden School. The first motion added the grade four programming to the school, while the second approved the request from the New Brigden School ECS to move into the school for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 school years and provide 0.3 FTE funding for ECS instruction.
     
  4. A delegation from Seven Persons School presented on a number of entrepreneurial projects being done by students.  The projects include a toques fundraising initiative, a hovercraft build, a literacy fair exhibit and a recycled materials innovation. It was shared that changes in how the curriculum is taught allow students to be innovative, explore technology, develop communication and marketing skills, problem solve and be creative.
