November 10, 2020 - Board Meeting Highlights

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the November 2020 public board meeting was held virtually. The agenda for the meeting can be found here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/11Tf8CJhhGC5TvEgOLLxEAuen9rXoby7e/view?usp=sharing

1. ATA Local Bargaining Memorandum of Agreement:  Secretary Treasurer Ryan Boser provided an overview of the new memorandum of agreement that was recently ratified by Prairie Rose teachers. Highlights of the changes include; an additional day in-lieu for principals, the addition of a wellness account to support health spending amounts, changes to accumulated personal leave days, a move to 90 days for term contracts before personal days can be used, an additional day of leave for employees who adopt a child, and changes to the expectations of staff on inclement weather days.

2. Ward Review: The Ward Boundary Report from PSBAA consultant David Steele was provided to the board for information. The item will come back to the board in late November, at which time the board will decide on whether to change the current electoral boundaries and trustee representation based on the report findings, stakeholder feedback and recommendations.

3. Prairie Rose Re-Naming:  The board discussed adding the name public to Prairie Rose School Division’s branded name. Trustees shared feedback about the proposed name change based on their conversations with individual school council groups over the past month. Overall, reception was mixed with most parent council groups feeling neutral about the change, if the cost remained minimal and reasonable. The motion was carried by the board. The new branded name will be Prairie Rose Public Schools.

4. BSR #2: A minor language change was made to policy BSR #2 Delegation to the Superintendent to clarify “all Prairie Rose Public Schools staff” to the line, all board authority delegated to staff is delegated through the superintendent.
