December 8, 2020 - Board Meeting Highlights

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the December 8, 2020 public board meeting was held virtually.

The agenda for the meeting can be found here: December 8, 2020 PRPS Board Meeting

1. New Brigden School Presentation: New Brigden School Principal Gayle Vass provided an overview of the small rural school and highlighted some of the learning activities taking place in conjunction with the school’s literacy goal. School communications, learning days and events, creative learning projects during COVID-19, and a special project where the students built a nest and took care of three baby owls who had been abandoned were also shared.

2. Ward Boundary Bylaw Readings: Secretary Treasurer Ryan Boser presented proposed bylaw 01/2020 Electoral Wards for approval. The bylaw requires approval of three readings to proceed and must be submitted to the Ministry prior to December 31, 2020. As the bylaw does include the reduction of one (1) trustee (based on motion 2020-85 passed by the board at the November 27, 2020 board meeting) it will require Ministerial approval once submitted.  The board approved all three readings of the bylaw.

3. 2021 Trustee Election Returning Officer: Secretary Treasurer Ryan Boser explained that there is a new requirement as part of the Municipal Elections Act that requires the board to name both a returning officer and a substitute returning officer for the 2021 election. In addition, it was shared that interested candidates are able to drop off nomination papers starting January 1, 2020. It was proposed that Ryan Boser be named Returning Officer and Candice Hintz be named Substitute Returning Officer for the municipal 2021 election. The board passed both motions.
